The main event is the Hastings Premier\, which has historically featured 10 to 16 players in a round-robin format. In recent years\, the tournament has also incorporated knockout and Swiss systems. \n  \nInternational Players and Championship Heritage\nAlongside the Premier\, the Congress includes a Challengers section open to all players\, with the winner earning an invitation to the following year’s Premier. The event regularly attracts competitors from over thirty countries. Remarkably\, almost every World Champion—except Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov—has played in Hastings. \n  \nHastings Chess Club and Local History\nChess has a long and proud heritage in the town. Hastings Chess Club\, founded in 1882\, continues to play an important role in the local community and reflects the enduring popularity of the game here.
