SUMMARY:Hastings Old Town Carnival Week
DESCRIPTION:Home » Events » Page 2\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout\nHastings Old Town Carnival Week takes place every summer in the Old Town of Hastings\, East Sussex. \n  \nAugust Celebrations in Hastings Old Town\nThe carnival week usually happens during the first week of August. Winkle Island officially opens the celebrations. During the week\, organisers host concerts\, street parties\, charity races and Morris dancing. Participants join the Old Town Carnival procession\, which features floats\, dancers\, majorettes and marching bands. The evening ends with a firework display. \n  \nHistory of the Carnival (Since 1968)\nThe carnival began in 1968. Old Town residents felt that the original Hastings Carnival should have included the Old Town in its route\, so they created their own event. Over time\, the Old Town carnival grew bigger and more popular\, while the Hastings carnival declined and eventually stopped. As a parting gesture\, the organisers gave the Carnival Queen the title “Miss Hastings.” In 2018\, they rebranded the Carnival Court as the Sea Court and added a King\, who holds the title “Mr Hastings.” \n  \nFireworks Over the English Channel\nThe week concludes with a spectacular firework display over the waters of the English Channel. Bright colours fill the night sky and reflect on the sea. The display impresses both first-time visitors and long-time carnival fans. \n\n\n\n\n\nOld Town Carnival – Procession Route Map & Event Locations \n\n\nEvent Information\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation

SUMMARY:The Koho Festival
DESCRIPTION:Home » Events » Page 2\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout\nBack for its third year\, the Koho Festival will return with some exciting changes to this year’s event. One of the biggest updates is a redesigned layout. The acoustic stage will now sit beside the main rock stage. This new arrangement should keep the energy flowing while creating a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere across the site. \n  \nFestival Layout\nAnother important change is the introduction of a 20-minute break between bands. In previous years\, performances ran back-to-back with no pause. The new breaks will give sound engineers a well-earned breather. They will also give festival-goers time to top up drinks\, grab some food and enjoy the vibe before the next act. \n  \nCrowd Experience and Site Atmosphere\nBy bringing the bands closer together in one central area\, the organisers hope to create a more focused and lively crowd around the stages. At the same time\, there will still be plenty of space elsewhere for people who want to enjoy the music more casually and catch up with friends. \n  \nLine-Up and Local Music Talent\nThis year\, the Koho Festival aims to pack the venue with 14 incredible acts. Bands\, duos and solo performers will showcase the very best of the local live music scene. It promises to be bigger\, better and one of the best weekends the festival has hosted. \n  \nEvent Scheduling Update\nAnd yes—they listened. Koho is moving to one week after Airbourne Festival to avoid clashes. This time\, there are no excuses. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Information\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation

Every November\, thousands of visitors travel to the historic town of Battle to watch the spectacular celebrations organised by the Battel Bonfire Boyes. Many people regard it as the world’s oldest bonfire tradition\, with records dating back to 1646. \n  \nThe Origins of Battle Bonfire\nThe event began as a celebration of the failure of the Gunpowder Plot. Records from St Mary the Virgin Church mention payments for “gunpowder treason rejoicing” during the 17th century. Over time\, Battle Bonfire grew into one of Sussex’s best-known Guy Fawkes celebrations. The event combines local history\, political satire\, elaborate costumes and dramatic fire processions. \n  \nBattle Bonfire Torchlit Procession\nToday\, as many as 20\,000 spectators line the streets to watch the torchlit parade\, flaming crosses\, traditional Saxon costumes and huge fireworks display. Their work helps protect this unique tradition for future generations. \n  \nOne of East Sussex’s Premier Autumn Events\nVisitors staying in Hastings can easily travel to Battle for this unforgettable evening of history\, fire and celebration. SUMMARY:Jack In The Green
DESCRIPTION:Home » Events » Page 2\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout\nJack in the Green is a traditional May Day celebration that began in England\, especially in southern counties such as Sussex and Kent. This vibrant event blends ancient pagan customs with later Christian traditions. \n  \nHastings May Day Festival\nHastings hosts the largest festival of its kind in the country. It usually takes place on the first weekend of May and draws crowds of locals and visitors. The towering Jack in the Green figure leads the parade\, covered in lush greenery. Morris dancers\, musicians and revellers adorned in fresh foliage accompany him through the streets. \n  \nThe Rising of the Jack Ceremony\nA unique feature of the Hastings celebration is the “Rising of the Jack.” On the morning of May Day\, performers “awaken” the effigy during a ceremony at the Fishermen’s Museum. Enthusiastic onlookers attend the ritual\, which signals the start of the day’s festivities. \n  \nOrigins of the Traditional May Day Celebration\nAt its core\, the festival celebrates the arrival of spring and the renewal of nature. London milkmaids and chimney sweeps likely began the Jack in the Green tradition in the 17th century. SUMMARY:Famous May Day Motorbike Run
DESCRIPTION:Home » Events » Page 2\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout\nThe Famous May Day Motorbike Run to Hastings is an annual event full of tradition and adrenaline. Held on the first Monday of May\, it draws motorbike enthusiasts from across the United Kingdom and beyond. Riders celebrate the open road\, the camaraderie of the biking community and the enduring spirit of freedom. \n  \nHistory of the Hastings May Day Bike Run\nDating back to the late-1970s\, the May Day Run began as a small gathering of local bikers. It has since grown into a massive spectacle\, with thousands of participants revving their engines in anticipation. The scenic route from London to Hastings spans about 60 miles and winds through some of England’s most beautiful countryside. \n  \nHastings Seafront Filled with Motorcycles\nWhen riders reach Hastings\, the seafront fills with thousands of motorcycles. The entire promenade becomes an open‑air showcase of bikes\, from vintage classics to modern machines. \n  \nParking and Road Closures During the Event\nDue to the popularity of the event\, parking in Hastings can be extremely busy\, particularly along the seafront and in the Old Town. Pelham Place car park is typically reserved for motorbike parking during the event\, along with dedicated areas at the Stade\, so visitors arriving by car should plan ahead and expect road closures and delays. \n  \nHastings Parking Information\nFor more detailed advice on where to park\, including free parking spots and local tips\, see our Hastings parking guide. \n  \nPlan Your Visit\nThis is an extremely popular event so please BOOK YOUR ACCOMMODATION EARLY to avoid disappointment. \nPlease check dates & times of events with the organisers. We cannot be held responsible for alteration or cancellation of any events. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Information\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation
