About
The Medieval Heritage Weekend at Herstmonceux Castle returns to East Sussex from 1–3 May 2027, bringing three days of medieval history, living-history displays, reenactments and entertainment to the grounds of the historic moated castle. The May Bank Holiday event offers visitors the chance to experience medieval life through combat displays, traditional crafts and historical demonstrations in a unique castle setting.
Medieval Reenactments and Combat Displays
Live combat is one of the main attractions, with armoured knights taking part in staged battles using historically inspired weapons and fighting techniques.
Archery demonstrations also showcase the skills and equipment associated with medieval warfare, while visitors can watch the action unfold around the castle grounds.
Crafts, Music and Living History
Living history camps around the estate provide an insight into everyday medieval life. Reenactors demonstrate traditional skills such as blacksmithing, leatherworking, woodworking and textile production.
Visitors can explore the encampments and learn about medieval trades, domestic life and craftsmanship. Musicians, drummers and entertainers perform around the grounds, adding to the character of the event.
