November 7 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

About
Battle Bonfire is an annual Sussex Bonfire Night celebration in the historic town of Battle every November. The Battel Bonfire Boyes organise the event, and it is completely free to attend. The event features a large torchlit procession, a traditional bonfire and a spectacular fireworks display.
The tradition dates back to 1646, when early records show “gunpowder treason rejoicing” in the town. Today, people widely regard it as one of the oldest and most famous bonfire traditions in the UK.
Torchlit Procession Through Battle
The highlight of Battle Bonfire is the famous torchlit procession through the town’s High Street. Thousands of visitors line the streets to watch members of the Battel Bonfire Boyes and visiting bonfire societies march through Battle carrying flaming torches.
The procession includes traditional costumes, drummers, flaming crosses and fire displays. It creates a loud, atmospheric and unforgettable experience in the heart of the town.
The procession finishes at Abbey Green, where organisers light a large bonfire. The evening then ends with a major fireworks display over Battle.
History and Tradition
The Battel Bonfire Boyes continue to preserve the town’s historic Gunpowder Plot tradition. One of the most unique elements includes the world’s oldest known Guy Fawkes effigy, carved from pearwood in the late eighteenth century and still used during the celebrations.
Plan Your Visit
Battle Bonfire regularly attracts crowds of up to 20,000 people. Visitors should arrive early as road closures and large crowds are expected throughout the evening, especially around the High Street and Abbey Green areas. The event remains one of the highlights of the Sussex bonfire season and is known for its atmosphere, history and spectacular fireworks display.
