August 28 – August 30

About
The Herstmonceux Astronomy Festival returns for its 22nd year, bringing three days of stargazing, science and family-friendly activities to the historic Observatory Science Centre & Museum over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Set within the former Royal Greenwich Observatory site, the festival is one of the South East’s leading astronomy events. It attracts everyone from experienced astronomers to families discovering the night sky for the first time.
Visitors can explore the famous telescope domes, enjoy expert talks and discover interactive exhibits. It’s also a chance to experience one of East Sussex’s most unique festival settings. Whether you’re interested in space science or simply looking for an unusual day out, there’s something for every age. The combination of daytime activities and evening stargazing makes it one of East Sussex’s most distinctive annual events.
What to Expect
The Herstmonceux Astronomy Festival offers a packed programme across three days, combining astronomy, science and family entertainment. Visitors can enjoy historic telescope viewing (weather permitting), inspiring talks from guest speakers, planetarium shows, astronomy societies, trade stands and interactive science activities for all ages. Children can take part in hands-on workshops, while adults can explore the famous observatory domes and learn more about the wonders of the night sky.
One of the festival’s biggest attractions is the opportunity to camp on-site for the entire weekend. Full Weekend & Camping Passes allow visitors to stay at the Observatory Science Centre. This allows visitors to enjoy both the daytime activities and evening stargazing sessions without travelling home. Camping creates a unique festival atmosphere and lets astronomy enthusiasts make the most of the entire weekend.
Whether you’re a keen astronomer or visiting with the family, the festival offers something for all ages and experience levels.
