Pevensey History Festival returns to historic Pevensey, East Sussex, from 20–31 August 2026. The festival brings almost two weeks of local history, heritage and entertainment to the village where William the Conqueror first landed in England. Now in its ninth year, it features historical talks, guided walks, workshops, re-enactments and live entertainment. Most events are free to attend.
History and Heritage in Pevensey
The festival explores the remarkable history of Pevensey through events held around the village and its historic sites. Talks and guided walks offer visitors the chance to discover more about the area’s Roman foundations, medieval past, maritime history and colourful local characters.
Talks, Walks and Workshops
The programme includes a varied selection of history talks, village walks and practical workshops. Guided walks provide an opportunity to explore Pevensey on foot while learning about the village, its buildings and its changing role through the centuries.
Re-enactments and Live Entertainment
History is brought to life through re-enactments and historical demonstrations, while the wider programme includes live entertainment and music. Sea shanties and other performances add a lively atmosphere to events around the village.
Visiting Pevensey History Festival
With events spread across historic Pevensey, the festival is an opportunity to combine local history with a visit to one of East Sussex’s most distinctive heritage villages. Visitors can also explore Pevensey Castle, St Nicolas Church and the village’s historic streets while attending festival events.
